April Intra-district event

  • 04/23/2017
  • Each district has its own location

This is a BAGRS-sponsored event

April and November are for Intra-district events. Ask your District supervisor about your district activities, which could include:

- Social gathering at one of our garden railways. Run trains, talk, and eat snacks. Maybe a potluck lunch.

- Social lunch at a central restaurant. Try to find one with a railroad theme (they exist). Antioch has the Red Caboose redcabooserestaurant.com

- Progressive tour. Like a regular tour of open houses, but district members all go to the same railway at the same time so that owners can participate. Can also be a way to provide a meal by courses at each house.

- Work party. Sometimes an older family needs help due to health issues. Rail cleaning, weed abatement, erosion control, plant maintenance, and finally running a train can be rewarding in a group effort.

- Clinic. Organize a workshop with a specialist/speaker, tools and some materials. Participants bring equipment to weather, a building to paint, Sculpey for figures, electronic projects, etc.

- Build a project on one of your railways. Supply tools and materials. Give instruction. Get something done.

- Propagation party. A mature railway can offer plant material for district members to take stem cuttings from miniature trees and divisions from wayward groundcover. Participants bring pruners, pots, and soil.

- Pruning party. Many hands lighten many trees. Take cuttings home to root. (November is a good time to prune and root cuttings)

- Planting party.  Many hands plant many plants. Share extras with participants.

- Ops session. Demonstrate or instruct participants on how to move cargo with prototypical operations.

- Community public railway. Gather to help a local garden railway because it makes a difference for our hobby. Show the public what we’re about. Hint: G&O (East Bay), Roving Garden RR (Diablo Valley), Flower and Garden Show (Peninsula).

- Your idea. Or combine two or more of the above ideas. Report in the T&T.

- District Superintendents are your representatives. They organize local events for you and report back to the Scheduling Coordinator. You can help. Talk to them. At some point their interests will take them away from the job and you could take that job for a year or two.
